This is an interesting article covering the 85th anniversary of the Lycoming Engines, an operational division of the Avco Corporation.  The engine of choice for early Lycoming division was the R-680, which was being mass produced by the company since 1929.  This engine alone powered the planes of the first airlines of the nation, and within 20 years they produced around 25,000 engines for several planes including those that flew before and during the Second Great War.  It only continued to improve upon their R-680 model through the decades, and still stands as a mass producing airplane engine division.  The history of this company was very interesting, and it is simply amazing to know that they have been doing it for 85 years to the present and successfully made historic contributions along the way.
